Christiana Assistant Director of Nursing Geraldine L. Weathers RN was honored by The Brandywine Center, in cooperation with Keystone Mercy and the Brandywine Health Foundation, in appreciation for her life’s work as a Community Health Advocate. Seven recipients received this award July 30, 2011 at a Healthy Families Block Party held at The Brandywine Center in Coatesville. The awards were created to recognize community leaders who have made a significant difference through long-term commitment and leadership in building health and wellness in the Coatesville community. A long-time health educator and former cardiac nurse, Geri participates in numerous health fairs and health initiatives through the many organizations with which she has been involved. Congratulations, Gerri, on receiving this well deserved recognition of your outstanding and selfless work!

Snow Hill Employee accepted as Administrator-in-Training

The Maryland Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators has accepted Sharon Dougherty, former Director of Human Resources and Medical Records in Snow Hill, as an Administrator-in-Training beginning a rigorous year-long program under the guidance of Preceptor Margaret Miller, Administratorof the Snow Hill facility. During the coming year Sharon will spend a prescribed period of time in each of the nine departments in the facility. Already a college graduate of Salisbury University, Sharon must also successfully complete a 100 hour college course in health care and pass state and federal licensing exams.

Mary Doherty recently joined the staff in Christiana as the new Business Office Manager. Mary brings over 20 years of experience in the healthcare field to her position where her responsibilities include assisting families with the Medical Assistance process, processing insurance/billing documents and managing the resident funds account. A resident of Oxford, Pennsylvania, Mary is married with two children and three grandchildren. She enjoys gardening and shopping at the outlets. Welcome to the Harrison Senior Living family, Mary!

Harrison Senior Living of Georgetown broke ground today on a 16,000 square foot addition to their health care facility. The company has proudly served Sussex County for over 25 years providing skilled nursing services and a full complement of rehabilitation including physical, speech and occupational therapies. The facility also includes a secured memory impaired unit to care for residents with Alzheimer’s. The expansion project will increase resident capacity from 109 to 139 and will include capabilities to provide outpatient therapy services. A large secured court yard with gardens and walking paths is also planned for the enjoyment of facility residents.

Several of the facility’s residents and family members joined in the celebration along with Georgetown Council member Brian G. Pettyjohn and State Representative Ruth Briggs King.

Chris Richetti, President of Harrison Senior Living, indicated that the project will add approximately 30 new jobs to the community for nurses, nursing aides, and environmental workers. Harrison Senior Living also operates the Snow Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and the John B. Parsons assisted living community in Salisbury.
