John B. Parsons Assisted Living Community is pleased to announce the expansion of its resident rooms. Suites have been recently renovated and doubled in size to approximately 550 square feet. All private suites are wheel chair accessible and include a living room, bedroom, private bath and shower, closet, wall to wall carpeting, new windows, window treatments, ceiling fans and individual thermostats for air conditioning and heat control. The living room area is furnished with a love seat and high-back chair, perfect for entertaining family and friends. The bedroom is completely furnished in a traditional-style and includes a comfortable bed, three drawer bedside cabinet, and wardrobe. Conveniently adjacent to the bedroom is a private bath. The bathroom area was carefully designed to be sensitive to the needs of older adults and includes raised toilets, grab bars and hand-held shower heads. Our renovations include a number of thoughtful features that provide support to our residents while at the same time maintaining the character of the home and its stately beauty and elegance.

Harrison Senior Living of Christiana held its second annual “Lenna Adams Award” celebration. Ms. Adams brought over 20 years of enjoyment to the residents at Christiana as a member of the activities staff. This thoughtful and generous memorial award was created by Ms. Adam’s children to honor their mother by recognizing a special individual who demonstrates the highest level of dedication in serving the residents of Harrison Senior Living of Christiana.

The award was presented by the first recipient, Wanda Schaeffer to this year’s honoree Barbara Hoopes, Dietary Director. Like Ms. Adams, Barbara has also served the residents at Christiana for over twenty years. Congratulations Barbara and thank you for all you do!

Doris Schonbrunner has been named as Administrator for Snow Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Miller retired as Administrator after a successful 25 year career in healthcare management including the last five years as Administrator at Snow Hill. Ms. Schonbrunner is also a licensed Nursing Home Administrator in Delaware and a Certified Assisted Living Manger in Maryland. She previously served as the Assistant Administrator at Harrison Senior Living of Georgetown and as the Executive Director for the John B. Parsons assisted living community in Salisbury. We wish the best for both Mrs. Miller and Doris.

Harrison Senior Living of Christiana has completed the redesign of its large interior courtyard complete with walking paths, Pergola, and beautiful gardens. Pictures are available on Christiana’s gallery. The courtyard is sure to be a popular place for residents and families and serve as the grounds for many activities and events throughout the year. We’re not done yet as designs are under way to convert the barn into an ice cream parlor!

Doris Schonbrunner started her Administrator in training program at Snow Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center under the guidance of Margaret Miller, N.H.A. Mrs. Miller is a Certified Preceptor in Maryland to train individuals to become a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and has been the Administrator at Snow Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for four years. Mrs. Schonbrunner is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator in Delaware. She previously served as the Assistant Administrator at Harrison Senior Living of Georgetown and as the Executive Director for John B. Parsons assisted living.

Harrison Senior Living of Georgetown has received final approvals and construction plans for its planned 30 bed expansion of the nursing facility. The completed project will add 14,000 square feet of additional space. The plan calls for an expanded dementia / Alzheimer unit to include a large activities area to meet the needs of these special residents. A large secured courtyard with walking paths and outside activities will also be available. A new 2,000 square foot rehabilitation service area is also part of the project that will include state of the art equipment and will accommodate outpatient services.
